Guide to Contacting Your Legislators
You can help our industry pass the Auto Body Labor Rate Bill. Our belief is that if enough shop owners, employees, suppliers, business associates, and your family and friends get involved just a little bit, we can achieve what we deserve so much – fair labor rates for the good work that you do. This involvement includes making phone calls or sending emails and letters to your legislators. If they receive this message enough times, they will notice our issue and act on our behalf.
This guide is here to help you do what you need to do to help. You may want to print this page as you use the web site. Here’s the procedure:
1. Find the name and contact information for your state representative and state senator by clicking the “Find Your Representative” button on the left side of the home page. Mark down the phone number, mailing address, email address, etc.
2. Use the sample letter by clicking the “Sample Letter” button. You can copy and paste it into an email message or a word processing document. Or, you can use it as a resource for a telephone conversation to a legislator’s office.
3. Remember to get this message to the state representative and senator who represents the district in which your business is located, and also to the representative and senator who represents the district in which you live. They may be different people.
4. Let us know what you’ve done. After you finish making any contacts, whether my mail, phone, email, fax, or in person, please send an email to masslaborratebill@yahoo.com. Simply write “sent fax to Rep. Smith,” or “met with Sen. Jones,” etc. Keep it short and sweet. Then, put your name at the bottom of the email so that we can keep track of how many contacts each legislator get.
5. OR, if you sent A LOT of messages, it may be even easier to print out a copy of the Political Action Tracking Worksheet by clicking on the “Action Worksheet” button. You can write what you’ve done on that form and fax it to our office at (978) 749-0687.
That’s it! A few minutes well spent by you, your spouse, your voting-age children who live in Massachusetts, your employees, and all the other people you know who are interested in your success, can go a long way to helping us pass this bill.
On behalf of the entire auto collision industry in Massachusetts, we thank you for your support
